Project undertaken at Lee/ Fitzgerald

Entrance and security lodge for Arts University College Bournemouth Campus.

The design of the new entrance lodge is based around the concept of two slipped planes forming the main walls of the lodge and spanning out into the landscape, parallel to the access road. The walls connect the building with the surrounding landscape and providing a successful visual shield to the substation.

An over-sailing roof canopy sits on top of the walls adding a slender sense of horizontality in a third direction, the canopy extends to enable the security guards to shelter from the rain while attending to arriving vehicles.

The glass box nestled beneath the canopy and between the walls provides simple cohesion between these 3 elements, allowing the security guards optimal vision of the access road in both directions.

The eastern wall of the lodge is conceived as a thickened storage wall which will contain traffic cones, hi vis jackets etc.
